Final Assignment: Final Poster

This is my group's finalised poster based on our statement: CREATIVE MULTIMEDIA CAPTURES.

In this poster, we juxtapose the eye with a camera lens to show that camera helps us in capturing what our eyes see. Cos whatever that's been captured, be it in the form of a photograph, or a video or a movie, it is actually what we can see through our eyes. So, that's basically what our concept is. Furthermore, the eye-camera lens juxtapose is also to represent how, besides re-capturing and capturing, we're able to re-create what we see around us by using softwares such as Autodesk Maya, Adobe Illustrator and so forth. So, as you can see, we've included images of 3D modelling, photography, vector art, film scenes, movie posters and animations. We even included an old family portrait to represent how long it has been ever since the camera had existed.

Final Assignment: Sketches and Idea Development

Here are the pictures where we drew and brainstorm different ideas on how to portray our statement. We basically derive our ideas from the keyword "capture". So we used the objects the eye and camera to form our ideas. We also used many other random objects such as nets, jail bar and so forth.

Final Assignment: The Essay Report

Creative multimedia is about a product of multiple media that is invented with a creative idea. To understand the core meaning of creative multimedia it is important to first break apart the two words, where creativity is the process of introducing or discovering new ideas and concepts for an existing or non-existing product. The concept of creativity includes innovation, invention, novelty, and creativity. For example, the process may involve taking an existing product and redesigning it entirely to improve the following factors such as quality, cost and overall design. It requires the ability to modify the current product into a fresh new creation that the society can accept. Multimedia is about using advanced technology like computer software and its available functions like text, audio, video, animation, interactive features, and still images to portray the content of the information across to the audience. So in essence, by combining the two words together, Creative and Multimedia, it is about providing an innovative idea for a product through the availability of advancing technology to assist and provide a clear channel of communication to a target audience.

Nowadays, many areas surrounding our daily lives are involved with creative multimedia; from educational to the entertainment industry. However, digital arts caught our attention and we would like to further explore the essence of digital arts in creative multimedia.

Photography was one of the very first digital arts. It is a process, activity and art of creating still or moving pictures by recording radiation on a radiation-sensitive medium, such as a photographic film or an electronic sensor.  Photography is often used to capture a moment, to present expression from the picture to the viewer. As technology advances, digital photography is now widely used all over the world from commercial to non-commercial use. Some of the famous nature photographers like Frans Lanting and Galen Rowell captures nature events to portray an expression.

Yet, photography was not enough. Photo manipulation was invented, starting from retouching via ink, paint, double-exposure and darkroom manipulation. However as technology runs with photography, it goes the same with photo manipulation technology. This is the application of image editing techniques to photographs in order to create an illusion or deception, in contrast to mere enhancement or correction, through analog or digital means. One of the most popular photo manipulation software is Adobe Photoshop.

Photography is not only still frames, it also includes moving frames. Live-action is one of the moving frames photography. It refers to cinematography that is not produced using animation. However, it includes special effects (SFX) and visual effects (VFX). Special effects are on-set mechanical effects and in-camera optical effects, mostly done on the spot when the film is being shot. Green screens are used in this area of effects. Visual effects are digital post-production. Effects done here are usually those we cannot do physically in reality, for example blowing up a car in the middle of the city. All these effects are done with digital photography and technical skills.

From there, we go on to vector art, a 2-dimensional simplified and stylized image of the original. It is often used in posters, where vector enables it to be able to go through mass production with minimum cost and at the same time visually attractive. And with a little help from typography, the advertising industry began to expand with these digital arts.

After the 2-dimensional era was at its peak, 3-dimensional modeling appeared. Its accuracy in photorealism and flexibility in animation has brought digital art to a higher level. However, 2D still has its stand in the industry, no less than 3D. CAD programs are used to render a 3D model and animations in the form of mesh, whereas 2D in the form of bitmap and vector.

Animation started off with stop-motion. Puppet animation, clay animation, go motion and pixilation were all “cartoons” of those days. You may recognize names like Jan Svankmajer and even Tim Burton! Today, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studio, as well as Dreamworks, takes over the industry with 2D and 3D animation with examples of animations such as “Up” and “The Incredibles”. One can see how good the quality of the animations.

From what we can conclude from the studies and research we’ve made on creative multimedia and on digital media, we have come to a conclusion that creative multimedia captures and also re-captures moments and events in life through the invention of new technology. With the technology we currently have, we are able to keep memories by taking photographs, and we have seen how the camera has evolved throughout these years. It’s not only the camera that has advanced, other inventions have moved forward too. Today, we’re also able to make motion movies and the process is not as tedious as it used to be. In other sense, everything has been simplified and made easier for us mankind.

Final Assignment: Mind Mapping

This is the logical mind-map my group and I brainstormed based on the topic/theme given: Creative Multimedia. Design credits to Erika Chong. Basically, we divided it into 5 different categories on what we actually think Creative Multimedia is.

This is the second mind map. This mind map focus on the chosen category: DIGITAL ARTS. Here, we managed to branch out to seven different categories related to digital art. Basically, everything we've mentioned here are mostly technology-wise. From the gadgets to the methods, everything is modernised.

A Nightmare

In class, Radzi gave us the last topic for the last entry of the blog. We were ask to derive the first four words that pops to mind of a kitten, and then we were to pick a word and wirte a sentence, and then draw the scariest image. So here's the imgae I drew from the word I chose: CLAWS.

Not so cute, huh?

Eighth Friday Of the Eighth Week of Doom

Its week 8 and its the final week for our blog entries. Radzi came in and he began talking about metaphors and stuff like that. Then, he began talking on how its really simpel to come up with an idea. All you gotta do is think of a random word, and fromt here, branch out your ideas from that one word. He called it the "explosion of ides" or something, I can't really remember. But I think that deriving the idea from just any random word, really does work. But there are many other ways too, like just looking at any random pictures and then you get your idea. I experienced that about three weeks ago in class when I was suppose to come up with a character design of me. It really does work. After the lecture, Radzi made us do an exercise related to the lecture. That exercise, which we drew a picture, will be uploaded soon alright? :D

Ain't it cute? It won't be anymore.

Mortar & Pestle

"A MAN is like a set of mortar and pestle. Just as the mortar and pestle are used to pound and grind herbs because of their hard nature by their owner, so are men. Men who takes on their responsibility as a father, brother or a friend, is just like a mortar and pestle. Responsible dads work their asses off to put food on the table, loving brothers tries to keep their lil ones from trouble and put the blame on themselves, friends stay true to their friends."

Metaphor
Mortar & pestle: Man
Owner of the mortar & pestle: Responsibility

Pain

"Pain is like eating ice cream. At first, it seems harmless but then as you eat it, the coldness of the ice cream gives you pain in your gums. But as times passes, the pain slowly numbs you and then it dissappears. Soon, you slowly get used to the pain, you no longer feel it. Pain is like eating ice cream, because it hurts you but then, you slowly grow numb to it as it begins to heal slowly. And when you feel pain again, it doesn't hurt as bad as the first time, for you've experienced it before, and you know how to deal with it."

Pingu

I choose to share this video because of the claymation used to produced this simple story of a young penguin and his daily life. Even though its a simple story but its really creative how they produced it. It managed to attract viewers, including me. I used to watch it during my childhood and I still love it very much. So, enjoy :)

Candle

"Life is like a lighted oil lamp. The fire continues to burn as long there is oil, and it provides light to those who need it, till it eventually dies out. Same goes for life. Each of us have been given a purpose while we continue to exist here on earth. So, we should do our part and contribute in any way we can before our time ends, even if it is small."

Chili

Source Google
"Love is like a red chili. The seeds inside it makes it spicy and burns your tongue. It burns so badly you'll cry and your nose waters. But its spiciness is addictive and satisfying. You'll want to eat it again." Charmaine Lau

Seventh Friday of the Seventh Week of Doom: I Shall Make You A Unit

Yesterday, we had an exercise in class regarding juxtaposition. Radzi guide us through the exercise and I ended up with three topics to juxtapose on. So, here are the three juxtaposes I came up with for each topic.

LightningWind
I decided to draw the lightning in the wind motion to give it the windy feel. Can you feel it?

FlowerSpider
This is my version of a FlowerSpider. I made its face a flower with its stema dn leaf and  the original spider body. Creepy or adorable?

LeafWater
I made the falling leaves as water droplets to portray water.
